Children's Hospital has been caring for children since 1948 and is the only pediatric specialty health care center in Nebraska. Patients are referred from throughout the region for the treatment of complex or unusual diseases in addition to pediatric primary care.
The new Children's hospital was built in 2000 and has 72 medical/surgical beds, a 16 bed pediatric intensive care unit, 42 neonatal ICU beds and a 25 bed outpatient surgery unit. It is home to the only dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department in the region. Children's Hospital operates 25 specialty clinics and is home of one of the largest poison centers in the United States.
Other services offered by Children's Hospital include craniofacial reconstructive services, developmental evaluations and consultation, diabetes education and treatment, psychological services, radiology, social work, speech therapy, and occupational and physical therapy.
